Brass Parts for Pathway Lights

Lighting fixtures play an important role in outdoor landscape design. Their appearance and service life depend on the quality and function of the individual components. This case study covers custom brass parts for pathway lights and the manufacturing process used to produce them.

Established in 2008, JeaSnn supports the manufacturing of CNC machined lighting parts from concept and sampling through production.

Manufacturing Process

The path light body is assembled from five metal and plastic parts. Deep holes are machined into the outer surface to mount additional lighting components and secure the fixture to the ground. The other components are produced using CNC turning and milling according to the customer's drawings and specifications.

Main Part Production

  1. Material purchase: Purchase square brass tubing.
  2. Cutting: Cut the material into two parts of different lengths.
  3. Welding: Join the two brass pieces with a strong welded bond.
  4. Polishing: Smooth the welded joint and remove oxidation, stains, and minor surface defects.
  5. CNC machined holes: Machine the holes needed to install the internal components.
  6. Surface treatment: Protect the natural brass color while reducing oxidation and fingerprints.

Titanium Oxide Coating

A thin titanium oxide film can be applied by chemical method or PVD. It helps resist fingerprints and oxidation while preserving the natural appearance of the brass.

Clear Coating

A transparent polyurethane or acrylic clear coating protects the brass from air, moisture, fingerprints, and other external exposure without changing its natural color.

Solving the Base Cracking Problem

JeaSnn produced three samples from the customer's design for fit testing. The customer reported that the base cracked when it was pressed into the tube and asked for engineering support.

JeaSnn's solution: extend the brass base so it fits farther inside the tube and machine two threaded holes to secure the base with screws.

The revised drawing was confirmed by the customer. New samples were produced within one day, the cracking issue was resolved, and the parts moved into mass production.
